Bramble Leaf

I have a real soft spot for this painting! While walking in the Common in Southampton I walked past hundreds of bramble bushes, but the colours of the leaves when the light shines through caught my eye. When I looked closer and saw the variety and intesity of the colours – I knew I had to take it home and paint it! I worked on it for about 5 evenings after lectures – and it was one of my first ever paintings to be exhibited and go on sale!

    • Thank you! The work that I’ve posted are paintings I completed a while back now – and I am very close to finishing my current piece, but when I start something new I shall upload photos as I go! Thanks for your interest!

  1. Hi Helen! Thank you for your lovely comment on my blog. I appreciate it! I love gardening and photographing flowers so much and I hope that passion shows in my photographs. It looks like you love them as much as I do! I’m going to follow your blog to see more of your botanical illustrations—I’ve wanted to do some as well but haven’t yet. My background is in fine art and although I graduated college with a graphics degree, I started out studying painting (oils and acrylics). I still paint occasionally, but find that self-employment as a graphic designer and my love of photography has “gotten in the way!”

  2. Hi Helen

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment, thought I would return the favour and wow, your paintings are stunning. I’ve got a long way to go and a lot to learn but I really like your painting style.

Glad its not just me who gets excited about all the amazing colours you can find in a single leaf.

    Happy Painting

    Billie

  3. Marvelous painting, Helen! Painting is one thing that I’m not good at. I’ve tried when I was younger with watercolor and oil paint. But I felt easily turned off by the result. I should’ve practiced more. Just marvelous what you’ve done.
